Product Description
Chase Bays Power Steering Kit - Nissan 240sx S13 / S14 / S15 with 1JZ-GTE or 2JZ-GTE
The all new redesigned Chase Bays Power Steering Kit for Nissan 240sx / Silvia S13, S14 or S15 is designed to eliminate common factory power steering leaks, fluid spillover & overheating issues w/ improved aesthetics, durability & stealthy design. It is a full 100% upgraded A.N. Hose and Fitting replacement of the stock reservoir and hoses. From the reservoir to pump to rack (and cooler if upgraded). ALL Hose and Hose Ends are BMRS aka Brown and Miller Racing. This is the best Hose/Hose Ends in the world, the same components seen on NASCAR and Indy Car. All the Fitting Adapters are designed and manufactured by Chase Bays to be chassis specific for perfect leak free installs.
Our over-engineered Triple-Baffled Power Steering Reservoir (aeration & spillover proof) is at the core of the kit. It optionally comes w/ an upgraded Setrab Oil Cooler that mounts under driver side headlight (or in center) for addt'l airflow. Chase Bays uses highest quality components available. Our reservoir is constructed of 6061 aluminum & is anodized black w/ laser etched cap. The reservoir itself uses our aluminum bracket & can be mounted in stock location.
Triple Baffled Power Steering Reservoir
Countless hours of research & development were put into our newest Power Steering Reservoir. This isn’t as simple as putting 2 fittings on a fluid container & calling it a day. The smaller fitting on the Reservoir is the fluid return from the rack. It can be sent back at pressures up to 120psi. When that hits the fluid in the reservoir it can cause extreme foaming aeration if not properly slowed down & directed. The more the steering & RPM on the car, higher the pressures will be. This is what commonly causes spillover through the cap. Most people think their fluid is boiling over when this happens but in most cases it isn't.
We've put serious engineering time into the internal design to negate aeration & spillover. The performance of this Power Steering Reservoir has gotten rave reviews. In reservoir photos you can see a "chimney" inside, there's a multi-layer design within this chimney. We can't give away all of our secrets, but just know you won't have any aeration or spillover issues. B/w on track testing & computer fluid dynamics, we were able to slow down 120psi to 12psi in 2 Inches of fluid motion. That's just 2 of the baffles, it doesn’t end there.
Power Steering is a loop hydraulic system so it needs to be vented. The cap has a unique baffle design to block fluid from pushing out the vent. Go to any road race/drift/rally event & look at all the factory (most aftermarket) PS reservoirs. By end of the day there's spillover all around the reservoir.. Our goal was to be the 1 in 100 reservoirs to have no spillover. We're proud to say; that goal has been met
COLD FILL POINT: Halfway filled up on reservoir.
Reservoir Mounting
Our clever reservoir mounting brackets makes a few adjustments from stock. The bracket itself works for S13, S14, & S15 chassis unlike stock piece. On S13 the bolt holes used are slightly further back on the shock tower (like S14 & S15) but the positioning is nearly the same. We pushed the reservoir toward the engine 1" to allow room for wheel tubs, but it still allows clearance for big JZ intake manifolds.
Hoses & Adapters
The high-pressure rack to pump hose is -6AN SS, Teflon PTFE lined, & black PVC coated. This coating is crucial, it makes THE hose chaffing resistant if it rubs against metal or a fellow hose. The -6AN rack to reservoir & -10AN reservoir to pump hoses are abrasion resistant, black nylon sheathed, & SS reinforced. They are completed W/ high end black aluminum AN fittings & Metric to AN adapters for the rack n pump conversion to AN.
We do replicate / upgrade the factory rack connections. They use an inner o-ring seal instead of a sealing washer or flare seal, so the hex will not visibly seat all the way. This is okay as the seal happens on bottom of the fitting. S chassis racks have deep threads so we make our own custom length adapters & use an o-ring twice the thickness from stock. Rest easy as you'll get to enjoy a leak free PS setup for years to come.
Fluid Cooler
Our optional cooler add-on features our Chase Bays Inline Heatsink Fluid Cooler. This compact, 12 inch cooler is proven to drop fluid temperatures by 20 degrees in an easily mounted, compact and aesthetically pleasing way, including leak-free -6AN connections.
Applications
• 89-94 S13 Nissan 240sx w/ 1JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GE, or 2JZ-GTE
• 95-98 S14 Nissan 240sx w/ 1JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GE, or 2JZ-GTE
• 89-02 S13, S14, or S15 RHD Silvia or 180sx w/ 1JZ-GTE, 2JZ-GE, or 2JZ-GTE
2JZ-GTE VVTi works but has to change Power Steering Pump to non 2JZ-GTE VVTi, this engine comes with a variable pressure pump that will cause unsafe steering irregularities.
Revisions:
• We've developed a bracket that works for both S13 & S14/S15 chassis to mount reservoir in stock location. See "Reservoir Mounting" above for more info
• We now provide the proper inner o-ring seal rack fittings. We had to manufacture these as no one provides an off the shelf piece w/ long enough metric side threads to create a seal. We also doubled the size on the o-ring for a more reliable seal. Take note that the hex will NOT bottom out when you install. The seal happens on bottom of the fitting. Don't over-tighten this fitting! Better to under-tighten & have a small leak to fix vs a cracked rack. Adding 1/4 turn to a fitting is easier than replacing a rack.
